The Deputy Mayor of St. John’s says the information compiled in a recent engagement process regarding the pedestrian mall has yet to be brought before council for consideration.
Sheilagh O’Leary was responding to concerns raised on VOCM Open Line by restaurateur Todd Perrin.
O’Leary says all the information compiled will be pooled and presented to council in March.
Concerns have been raised by various business owners in the capital city’s downtown. Last summer a greater number of concerns were raised about aggressive panhandling in the area, while other business owners do not believe the rewards of participating in the pedestrian mall justify the increased costs incurred.
O’Leary says more people are being drawn to the downtown as a result of the pedestrian mall, but she acknowledges that council is open to improvements.
