Temperatures in the mid to high twenties are in the forecast for most of the island today and tomorrow.
That means pet owners will have to start thinking once again about the effects of high heat on animals.
Veterinarian Maggie Brown-Bury says dogs and cats are not able to regulate their temperature through sweat like humans.
“They’re not able to control when they’re inside and outside the way that we can” she says. “So, we need to be mindful that just because we’re comfortable, doesn’t mean they’re comfortable.”
She encourages pet owners to watch for signs of overheating, like heavy panting, and low energy. “They might be getting overheated” and need to get indoors, or get some shade, or some water.
