After nearly a week staying with friends, relatives and in emergency shelters, weary residents of Musgrave Harbour can finally return to their homes.
The provincial government has lifted the evacuation order issued last Sunday.
Residents are being cautioned however that the fire burning near Musgrave Harbour is still an active one and crews remain on the scene working on hot spots.
Buses are available at the Steele Memorial Centre in Gander for those who need transportation back to Musgrave Harbour.
In the meantime, people are being asked to continue to monitor official channels for updates on the fire.
Cabin owners in Chance Harbour area be allowed some access tomorrow
Meanwhile, the 1,860 hectare fire burning near Chance Harbour is now classified as being held, meaning that resources are in place to prevent any further spread.
The fire has destroyed a number of cabins in the area.
Forestry officials will reopen a portion of the Chance Harbour resource road tomorrow morning to allow cabin owners to check on their properties, however, they’re being reminded that the fire is still active and access will be reevaluated as fire fighting efforts continue.
Zones marked red are not accessible.
A checkpoint will be repositioned at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the foot of Brian’s Pond.
A map is available online for cabin owners to see what areas are open to access.
