A man charged with first-degree murder is taking full responsibility for delays involving previous charges he’s facing.
Twenty-three-year-old Ibrahim Hussein is accused of killing 33-year-old Gerald Kyle “Scrappy” Hynes on Watson Street on April 8th.
Hussein was already facing charges of death threats, assault, having a restricted firearm and failing to follow court orders.
Yesterday, his defence lawyer asked to have those charges put off until November — after the preliminary inquiry into the murder.
And he agreed to waive the delay that will cause; in other words, taking full responsibility for it.
Asked if the Crown was OK with the new date and delay, Tim O’Brien replied: “Anything is possible with the waiver of delay.”
With that, the less serious charges were set down for November 14th.
Hussein’s 23-year-old brother is charged with helping him escape the murder scene and resisting or obstructing an officer.
He also has a preliminary inquiry set for the fall.
