A Marine Atlantic ferry was forced to briefly change course this week due to a medical emergency.
The call went out shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday night from the ferry Ala’suinu, which was on the run between North Sydney and Argentia.

Marine Communications and Traffic Services in Placentia notified the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre in St. John’s of a person on the ferry requiring medical attention, and the Coast Guard’s Barrington Bay, a high-endurance search and rescue lifeboat, was called into action.
The ferry was diverted toward the town of Burin to meet the Barrington Bay, which then took the patient to Burin and a waiting ambulance.
