By now, some Canada Games athletes are already settling into their temporary homes away from home on MUN’s St. John’s campus.
The first flights began arriving just after 6 a.m. this morning with almost 2,600 athletes arriving this week, then swapping out with 2,500 others in week two.
MUN is providing space for the athletes village based at Macpherson College, as well as team mission offices, polyclinic, media and broadcast centre, and social programming.
The village also includes main dining at the R. Gushue Hall, with a separate tent set up for any potential overflow.
Games CEO Karen Sherriffs says ensuring everyone had beds to lay their heads was top of mind.
“We’ve had a really busy solid team getting that village ready over the last few weeks, and let me tell you putting together 600 bunkbeds is no small feat.” she said. “Getting every room equipped with everything they need, all the meals, feeding about 700 an hour.”
