News is just coming to light now about an incident last Friday involving a large sum of cash, a stolen gun and pickup truck which began in Bay Roberts and ended with a crash on the TCH.
Two men have been arrested after the cash and gun were stolen from a safe at a medical clinic in the Bay Roberts area at about 7:30 in the morning. But they were just getting started.
RCMP tried to pull over a truck travelling at excessive speed on the TCH near Soldiers Pond about 45 minutes later. The vehicle did not stop for police and later crashed along the Foxtrap Access Road.
The two occupants then fled on foot. The passenger was taken into custody a short distance away while the driver fled into a wooded area. It took several hours but RCMP and RNC set up a containment area until they apprehended the suspect.
The vehicle, a newer-model F-150, had been reported stolen from the Terrenceville area a month ago. In it, police found a safe containing the cash and firearm.
Charged are 32-year-old Orjal Sako and 20-year-old Changath Lam.
Bay Roberts RCMP are asking the public to check for surveillance footage obtained in the area of the Conception Bay Highway, between Barracks Lane and Cross Road, between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on Friday August 1.
