It’s a challenging time for those who provide supports to people who have been evacuated, but the Salvation Army says they are meeting the demand.
Pam Goodyear, public relations with the organization, says they have many people who are well trained for situations like this, but the number of community volunteers who step up makes things a lot easier.
People in all three hot spots – Holyrood-Seal Cove, Conception Bay North and south of Grand Falls off the Bay d’Espoir Highway – have been evacuated or advised to leave.
Goodyear says one of the most challenging aspects of providing meals and other supports is the changing nature of the situation. You plan for 100 for lunch and end up with 40, or in the afternoon are told of another thousand people being evacuated and have to be fed supper.
