It was a busy couple of weeks in the metro region with attendance at the Canada Summer Games venues exceeding projections according to Mayor Danny Breen.
Breen says the place was abuzz with a lot of spinoff economic activity, particularly downtown.
He doesn’t have any numbers, but he has been getting reports showing commercial establishments, including restaurants, doing a brisk business.
St. John’s got new recreational facilities, such as the Fortis Canada Games Complex next to the Aquarena, and existing facilities were refurbished and expanded.
With the expanded capacity, St. John’s will be able to host more big-name sporting events in future.
