Two new inductees are going into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame.
Powerlifter Walt Forsey goes in as an athlete/builder as does volleyball player Susan Rendell.
From the mid-1980s through the 1990s, Forsey was unbeatable in provincial powerlifting competitions, winning “best lifter” at every event he entered and setting numerous provincial records across four weight classes, many of which still stand today.
As a builder, Forsey hosted more than 25 provincial powerlifting championships and coached numerous athletes to provincial, national, and world titles including world champion Joy Burt.
Rendell became only the second athlete in the history of Memorial University to be named to the second all-star All-Canadian team circa 1980. She competed for Canada on both the junior and national teams.
Off the court, she coached the 1983 Canada Games women’s volleyball team, later turning her focus to education, recreation and tourism.
They will be inducted October 25th.
