A St. John’s man charged with the attempted murder of three people in a west end apartment building will remain in custody for at least another month.
Thirty-two-year-old Mitchell Rose has been held in the secure forensic unit at the new mental health facility since December 9th, a day after he was arrested near the scene of the crime on Anspach Street.
Police now allege he attempted to kill three people — two women and a man — inside the building, with another man assaulted on nearby Blackmarsh Road.
Rose also faces a dozen additional charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats, though police have not said what kind of weapon was involved.
Family members have been open about his struggles with mental illness, while suggesting the system failed both him and the victims.
But they’ve also expressed some relief that Rose is now back under supervised care.
Court has heard that Rose is refusing medication and the psychiatric assessments ordered to date.
But they will try again, with a further 30-day stint ordered today for Rose at the new facility.
The results of that term will be disclosed when his case is called again on January 16th.
