The MHA for Mount Pearl-Southlands says traffic headaches in the district are the result of a number of “unintended consequences” but he says commuters should start to see some improvement by the end of the month.
Paul Lane says work on the extension of the Team Gushue Highway has resulted in the shutdown of a section of road between Commonwealth and the Robert E. Howlett.
That’s causing traffic heading toward Commonwealth to be diverted along Ruby Line and into Southlands.
“That’s created a lot of bottlenecks and inconvenience for people, particularly for people living in the Southlands area.”
He says the department is advising him that work is on schedule and that the Commonwealth Avenue section should be reopened by the end of the month.
Lane calls that good news for the people of Mount Pearl, the Goulds and the Southern Shore and particularly for residents of Southlands who have seen a great deal of disruption, especially during the morning and evening commutes.
