The Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is embarking on its largest single-project residential build ever.
The Pleasantville project has been in the planning stages for some time, and today government announced that the contract has been awarded to Olympic Construction for $17 million.
The 40-unit building on Charter Avenue will have eight fully-accessible apartments, and all units will include universal design elements that support seniors to age-in-place over time according to the minister responsible for NLHC, Joedy Wall.
The ground level of the building will have space that can be used for commercial or office purposes, or for health or community services.
Wall, federal cabinet minister Joanne Thompson, and St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen were on hand for today’s event.
The project is expected to be complete by summer 2027.
