A 38-year-old man is in the lockup after an assault at a home in the east end of St. John’s last night.

A woman called RNC around 8:30 last evening to report that she was being assaulted. The suspect left the scene before police arrived.

A few hours later, the woman called again to say the man had shown up to where she was staying in the west end.

He was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, choking and uttering threats.

He was held for court.
