The Consumer Advocate is calling on Newfoundland Power to establish a help line for customers concerned about high heat bills.
Dennis Browne says “there are now hundreds of complaints” from customers concerning their December power bills.
He says one woman saw her heat bill rise from $356 to $780 in a single month, and a common theme among the complaints he’s received questions the accuracy of the utility’s meters.
Browne wants the company to open a help line to allow customers to contact it and allow investigations into individual complaints.
He is continuing his call for smart meters, a technology that Newfoundland Power contends is not the least cost option under current legislation and customers will end up paying more due to the cost of installation.
