This is national Non-Smoking Week, which focuses on ways people can kick their addiction.
The theme this year is “Quitting is Personal and Possible.”
Program and education coordinator with the NL Alliance for the Control of Tobacco, Melissa Moore, says everyone quits in their own way, and there is no “right” way to do it.
At the end of the day, she says people have to do what’s right for themselves – which may mean trying nicotine replacement therapy, self-help materials, or counselling. Whatever the choice, she says, it is always possible to quit.
Moore says it is important to keep trying, even if a person who is trying to quit relapses.
“Don’t quit quitting,” says Moore, who notes that what may have been working for someone at first might not continue to work, so they would need to try something new.
