A woman’s deceitful efforts to work illegally as a nurse in this province were spelled out as she was convicted in court this morning.
Lisa Driscoll’s legal saga dates back to early 2021, when she was convicted of criminal negligence causing the death of her four-year-old son.
She was an LPN living in Ontario at the time, and reportedly addicted to opioids, which the child somehow ingested.
Knowing she would lose her licence, the Newfoundland woman told a judge she planned to move home and learn a trade online.
Driscoll did move home, but she took several aliases with her — including Lisa Strickland, Michelle Driscoll and Lisa O’Driscoll — similar names already licensed in this province, and using their credentials to get work.
Chancellor Park, Lane’s and Kenny’s Pond retirement homes in St. John’s, and Lakeside Homes in Gander all fell for it, hiring her between March of 2021 and late 2022, through the travel nursing firm Staffing Solutions.
But inevitably, the names and numbers didn’t match up and she was charged with several counts of fraud, impersonation and breaching her Ontario probation, entering guilty pleas last year.
Court has been told that no residents of the homes were harmed by Driscoll, now 46, who remained silent and withdrawn as she was convicted this morning.
A sentencing hearing is set for early June.
