An Iranian living in St. John’s is one of many watching the situation in Iran continue to unfold, but with only limited contact with loved ones still in the country.
Peace talks between the United States and Iran recently broke down, and a US naval blockade is in effect around Iranian ports.
Jalaleddin Afzal says communication with his family and friends has been sporadic, due to a continued internet blackout in the country.
He’s had brief phone conversations with relatives, but even then they are not able to say much about what is happening.
Afzal says right now they are waiting for a result – whatever that may be.
“This wait is devastating” says Afzal. He says there are also increased economic pressures because people have lost their jobs due to the blackout.
