A metro MHA who is concerned about a short access point from Pitts Memorial eastbound to Kilbride is pushing government to take measures this year to improve safety, but it’s unclear to what extent it will go this year to reduce risk.
Waterford Valley MHA Jamie Korab would like to see more signage and some brush cutting on the short access which goes from a 100 kmh highway to a 30 kmh 90-degree right turn.
He’s also calling for a safety assessment on that particular linkage, but Transportation Minister Barry Petten noted that government is doing a study on the traffic situation in metro – St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Paradise and Conception Bay South.
However, he agrees with Korab that there are safety concerns.
“That affects everyone using Pitts Memorial and I am aware of the dangers there but we are going to do some brush cutting this year,” promised Minister Petten.
“We are going to do something but if we don’t get it done this year, we’ll get it done next year.”
