NAPE is concerned about what it sees as a lack of transparency surrounding a contract between the health authority and Medavie which the union says has direct implications for its members.
Instead of a copy of the contract, NAPE was provided with a two-page summary of the 400 page document that “provided little to no information.”
NAPE says after being denied access to the contract by government, the union was advised to file an Access to Information request, only to receive page after page of black ink.
President Jerry Earle says the level of redaction effectively rendered the documents useless.
He says NAPE members deserve transparency, especially when their work and future employment could be affected.
“On many of these pages we have no idea if there’s additional information that we need to know…I jokingly said to someone here at the office that I thought I was after receiving the Epstein Files.”
The union will ask the privacy commissioner to review the decision to deny NAPE access to the full contract.
