A man cleared in the deaths of his twin daughters more than 20 years ago is scheduled to appear in Gander provincial court this morning on charges of sexual assault, assault and damage to property.
Nelson Hart was initially convicted in 2007 of first-degree murder in the drowning deaths of the girls at Little Harbour on Gander Lake, but he successfully appealed the conviction which was upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada.
The court determined that Hart’s confessions collected in the RCMP’s “Mr. Big” operation would be inadmissible in a retrial, and the Crown dropped its case and Hart was released into to the community.
Hart, who now lives in Gander Bay, is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
