The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating five suspicious fires in St. John’s over the weekend.
The first fire occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday morning on the pole line off Linegar Avenue in Shea Heights.
A second fire on Linegar Avenue was reported at 1:30 that afternoon, and there was a third blaze on Southside Road just over two hours after that.
The next day, emergency crews were called to a fire on George’s Pond Road near the Team Gushue Highway, and later that night just after 11:30 there was yet another fire – this time in a wooded area off Old Penneywell Road.
The RNC says due to quick response times from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department all of the fires were extinguished quickly.
They say all of the fires seem to be targeted at communications towers and pole lines.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking any witnesses or video footage from each of the areas in the one hour period immediately before or after the fires.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
