The NDP are calling on the provincial government to rethink how it approaches recruitment and retention of those in the healthcare system, and to start with establishing a new recruitment office.
The party’s call stems from a portion of their 2025 election platform known as the NL Cares Plan.
They want to see government restore a full-time recruiter position in the MUN medical school for physicians, as well as establish a new position to recruit from nursing schools, and another for other healthcare professionals.
The NDP says those positions should all exist under a single office for medical professional recruitment.
They are also advocating for paid work terms for nurses and pharmacy students, and for new supports and a mentorship system for all health profession graduates.
