A 48-year-old man has been charged with public mischief following a house fire in Port aux Basques.

RCMP received reports of a disturbance outside a home on Seaward’s Lane just after 8:00 Friday night.

Officers were told that someone inside the house was acting erratically and throwing items onto the road.

Police arrived to find the home on fire and searched it for anyone inside.

The fire was put out, but the home was extensively damaged.

Fernon Fredrick Seaward was charged with public mischief, mischief under $5,000, and failing to comply with a release order.

Seaward suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible.
