The provincial government is expanding access to a program for those that work in the K-12 system that addresses child sexual abuse.

Commit to Kids is a child-safety training program developed by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.

It trains people such as teachers, student assistants, bus drivers, and other staff about how to recognize signs of abuse, understand behaviours that may put kids at risk, and how to respond appropriately when a child shares concerns.

The program, first offered in this province in 2024, has helped train over 1,100 people who work with kids in grades 7-12.

Now, an additional $200,000 has been set aside through the National Action Plan to End Gender Based Violence, with the goal of training another 1,000 people this year.
