The City of Corner Brook has written Premier Andrew Furey asking that government review its plan for diagnostic imaging for the new hospital.
There are concerns that the new facility will not include a PET scanner, forcing cancer patients and others to travel to St. John’s for diagnostic imaging.
Area MHA Gerry Byrne says while a PET scanner may not be up and running when the facility opens in 2023, the plan is to have one in operation.
Residents held a rally in Corner Brook yesterday, confronting Byrne about the provincial government’s promise to have a PET scanner in the city.
The issue came up for discussion at last night’s Corner Brook council meeting last night.
Some of the discussion centred around why a promise was made to have a PET scanner in place and now it appears to be postponed.
