RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have issued a warning to snowmobilers about thin ice conditions on Grand Lake.
Police have received several reports of snowmobiles crossing the lake in areas where there are only two or three inches of ice. They say there’s even open water and running brooks that should be enough to warn people to stay clear.
Police are reminding snowmobilers that they need at least six inches of ice to safely cross frozen water, adding they want people to stay safe and not end up a statistic.
