RCMP are crediting a “concerned citizen” with tipping them off that a man was headed to Deer Lake with dozens of knives and possibly firearms with plans to execute politicians and “stop the election.”
That tip allowed police to locate, follow and eventually stop 66-year-old George Brake from carrying out the alleged attack.
Corporal Jolene Garland, the RCMP’s media relations officer, says the police were notified by a concerned citizen, noting that call advised that Brake was headed to Deer Lake to stop the election.
She said the caller also made references to firearms and knives.
Brake, a resident of Shoal Brook, has been charged with possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and fleeing from police.
He’s due back in provincial court in Corner Brook this afternoon.
