What’s believed to be the oldest publication still in circulation in Canada marks an important anniversary this week.
The Newfoundland Quarterly was first published in 1901 and is still going strong.
The publisher’s representative, Rebecca Cohoe, says while there have been a number of changes over the last 120 years, the main focus of the Newfoundland Quarterly remains the same: namely, to explore the culture, history and life of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
The print edition is published four times a year, with weekly posts on its website “to fill in the gaps.”
Cohoe says 120 years is worth celebrating and they have an event planned for Friday on the pedestrian mall in downtown St. John’s to mark the milestone.
The event at Johnny Ruth will include music by Flower Hill, as well as performances by Andy Jones, Mary Lynn Bernard and Ruth Lawrence.
