A call for tenders has been issued to install air purification and filtration systems in every classroom in the province, and while the province’s opposition parties are happy that’s being done, they believe the timing could have been handled a lot better.
Education Minister Tom Osborne announced late last week that the tenders would be issued. That announcement came the day after the province’s back-to-school plan was officially released.
Education critic for the PCs, Barry Petten, says while he’s pleased the call has been issued, it is late happening. Petten calls it a case of government being reactive vs proactive.
The NDP’s Jim Dinn echoes Petten’s sentiments. He says that if issuing the tenders was really part of government’s plans then it not only would have been part of the back to school plan announcement on the 12th, but the tenders would have been issued long before schools reopened.
Both Petten and Dinn describe the situation as an “afterthought.”
