Law enforcement is looking for information from the public regarding the illegal killing of a moose on the old rail bed near the weigh scales east of Goobies.
Officers found the front half of a moose carcass on the rail bed in the early-morning hours Wednesday. The animal had been killed either late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
The big game hunting season on the island doesn’t until the next weekend for bow hunting and September 11 for firearms.
The maximum penalty for a first offence of hunting during a closed season is $5,000, six months imprisonment, or both.
