The “Push up Man” is hoping his cross-island trek in support of mental health will inspire others to open a dialogue.
Bill Guiney started walking from the ferry terminal in Port aux Basques around a month ago, doing ten pushups for every kilometre walked. He arrived at Signal Hill with a police escort and a large crowd of people walking in support of him and his cause.

The journey was to raise money for mental health – the objective being $30,000.
In total Guiney walked over 1,000 kilometres and did over 10,000 pushups.
Bill’s wife, Susan, who accompanied him across the island, says most that joined to walk with him along the way were strangers.
She says being open about mental health can often encourage others to do the same.
Susan says they want others to know that it’s okay to speak openly about mental health.
She says if you’re struggling or have children that are struggling, it’s okay to speak to someone who will listen. The couple have been speaking publicly about mental health for six years now, and Susan says they aren’t planning on stopping anytime soon.
