Various initiatives to address mental health within the ranks of the RNC are helping members in high-stress jobs.
That’s according to an officer in just such a position.
Constable Mike Shea is an investigator with the RNC’s accident investigation section.
Shea highlighted the most common causes of crashes, such as speed and cellphones. But he also spoke to the support provided by the force in more tragic cases, for those who need it.
He says it’s never easy to deal with traumatic scenes, but adds the RNC is getting better at recognizing when there’s an issue and providing the required assistance.
Earlier yesterday, the RNC introduced the newest recruits in the equine therapy program — two Newfoundland ponies.
And in July, Stella’s Wellness Corner, a quiet room to detach from the workplace, was unveiled in a partnership between the force and mining giant Vale.
The room, located at RNC headquarters, is named for the force’s new support dog.
