MUN’s Faculty Association is responding to the mandatory vaccination and mask policy announced by the University, claiming not enough consultation was done.
Memorial University says more information on the mandatory vaccination of all students, staff and faculty is expected soon.
That will include a deadline and any possible exemptions to the mandatory vaccination rule.
In the meantime, MUN’s mandatory mask policy is now in effect.
Josh Lepawsky is VP External (President-Elect) of the Faculty Association at Memorial University. He says they are happy that the University has listened to their calls to re-institute the mask mandate, but wish there was a lot more consultation in the conversations that have been going on without them for many months.
As for mandatory vaccinations, Lepawsky says the vast majority of members were in support, however, the policy is lacking logistics for implementation.
He explains that on the one hand, it’s good that something is coming, but they’re just a few days away from the semester beginning. From their perspective, Lepawsky says a great deal of the uncertainty around this could’ve been avoided if sufficient consultation with students, faculty and staff had been going on for many weeks, if not months ago.
