Paralympian Katarina Roxon says missing the podium in her first competition at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo was disappointing.
Her voice wavering with emotion, Roxon—of Kippens on the province’s west coast—describes the experience as heart-breaking.
Swimming NL tweeted out that they were proud of her showing, but Roxon feels should could have done better. While disappointed with the result, she says it’s part of the process.
“You win some, you lose some,” she said, and “you learn as you go.”

Roxon finished fourth in the 100m breaststroke final yesterday, with a time of 1:25.73.
Roxon advanced to the breaststroke final the previous night after finishing second in her heat with a time of 1:26.62, however that time was only enough for fifth place overall.
She took home gold in the same category at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.
In the meantime, Roxon has a few more chances at the podium, starting with the Women’s 4X100 Freestyle Relay Sunday morning (Newfoundland Time). She’s also competing in 100m Freestyle on Monday the 200 IM and possibly the Women’s 4X100 Medley Relay.
