A local family is looking for support after their newborn son was diagnosed with a rare condition affecting the growth of his lungs.
Connor Harvey was born on June 25th with a rare condition called congenital diaphragmic hernia.
Essentially, his diaphragm didn’t close during prenatal development, allowing the contents of his abdomen to push into his chest, affecting the development of his lungs.
Because of his condition, Connor’s parents, Megan and Sean, had to relocate to Toronto for his treatment.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Megan’s cousin Amy Squires says Connor had his first surgery before he was even born.
It was an experimental procedure during which a balloon was placed in his windpipe to try to push the organs back down to make room for his lungs.
She says it went well, but Connor still has a long way to go.
Squires says the situation has been rough on Connor’s parents.
She says they are trying to stay positive, but her sister has described the situation to her as like living a nightmare.
A Go Fund Me has been set up in support of the family to help with expenses.
