An unfortunate development in the search for two turr hunters reported missing in Notre Dame Bay.
Coast Guard officials have confirmed that a debris field has been located about three nautical miles off Black Island.
The search was launched around 5:15 Sunday evening after two men, ages 20 and 30, were reported overdue on a turr hunting trip after leaving Lawrence Harbour on Saturday.
The search continued into the evening last night, but had to be paused due to reduced visibility in fog.
The effort, involving several vessels and the 103 Search and Rescue Squadron out of Gander, resumed this morning. Acting Superintendant for Maritime Search and Rescue, Neil Peet says the debris was discovered this morning just before the lunch hour.
He says they’re now throwing everything they can at the search effort in that general area in hopes of locating the two missing men.
