The province is slowly but surely coming back online following the cyber attack that crippled the healthcare system
Debbie Walsh is Eastern Health’s VP of Clinical Service.
Based on progress made in the last week, Walsh says she’s confident that progress is being made quickly and that they will be able to identify impacted patients and catch up.
She says many areas such as children and women’s health clinics, outpatient blood services and inpatient lab services, and ambulatory clinics at the Health Science and St. Clare’s have all returned to full operation.
Chemotherapy and radiation treatments have resumed at the cancer care centre, and by tomorrow at the latest in person clinic appointments will also resume.
As well, medical imaging has resumed with the exception of nuclear medicine and PET scan services, which are still operating on an emergency only basis.
Walsh explains that surgeries are up to between 75 and 90 percent, depending on the location, and that number includes elective surgeries.
She says they’re very cautious with surgeries because they rely on a lot of other IT systems to support the operating room. However, they are trying to proceed with as many surgeries as possible.
