The cost of the building set to replace the H.G.R. Mews Centre has risen to accommodate requests from the public.
The new building under construction in Mundy Pond Park, was initially slated to cost $24-million, however that has since risen to $33-million. The funding for the building is provided through the federal government’s Canada Community Building Fund.
Ward 3 Councillor Jamie Korab says once they began speaking to the public, they had to add to their plan.
He says the new building was originally to be around the same size as the old facility, however after speaking to the public, they realized the scope had to be bigger to incorporate requests like a walking track and steam room.
