The RNC say their recent weapons seizure is unlike anything they’ve seen in their jurisdiction before. Not just for the number and types of weapons, but the use of 3D printers to manufacture some of them.
Almost 100 items in total were seized from homes in Torbay, Flatrock and Pouch Cove—guns of all shapes and sizes, plus silencers, bulletproof vests and brass knuckles.
Police believe it’s part of the largest firearms trafficking network in the province’s history.
RNC Inspector Colin MacNeil says it’s a hard reminder that this province is not immune to this type of organized crime.
He noted a specific street crime unit was put in place for that very reason, adding it demonstrates the RNC’s proactive approach to the problem.
41-year-old Scott Waterman of Torbay is so far the only person charged in the case. He faces more than 140 counts linked to the illegal buying and selling of prohibited or restricted guns.
Yesterday, Waterman was denied bail. His next court appearance is set for March 3.
