The Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs says information sessions regarding the new Municipal Conduct Act have been an overwhelming success thus far.
Krista Lynn Howell says more than 800 municipal councillors, administrators and staff registered for three virtual information sessions, which she says highlights the need for and importance of the new legislation.
The Act governs conflict of interest, ethical behaviour, and professional conduct for all municipalities, enabling them to establish their own codes of conduct in order to address various workplace issues.
Howell says these conversations happen frequently around council tables, and they want to ensure people are afforded every opportunity to make the best possible decisions.
She says the sessions are a “critical step” in bringing the Act into effect later this year.
