Easter Seals NL is hopeful a solution can be found to a cut in federal funding for their Summer Jobs program.
Easter Seals hires students each year to put off their summer camp for children and young people with a range of disabilities.
CEO Mark Bradbury says they were left scrambling to make up the deficit when the federal government cut the jobs funding by 55 per cent.
Because the summer camp program is so important to their clients and families they decided to take funding raised through their capital campaign for an inclusive playground to keep it going this summer.
Bradbury says they’ve already reached out to MP Joanne Thompson and federal cabinet representative Seamus O’Regan.
He wants federal funding levels reinstated. “We don’t know if we can afford this every year, and we don’t want a precedence set.”
