A new technology is being implemented at Eastern Health that is hoped to have positive impacts on the detection of infections for patients, and on the use of antibiotics.
BD Canada has announced that it will be conducting a trial of its new technology, BD Health Site analytics, at the health authority.
BD Canada President, Ivy Parks describes the technology as a patient database that will serve two main functions for patients.
First, she says workers can pull information from it that can help detect infections in patients earlier and even identify at risk patients before an infection starts.
The second element has to do with antibiotics use. She says it allows clinicians to make earlier decisions on treatment options for patients. Parks says that means the right prescriptions are being used for the right bugs, thus reducing the misuse or overuse of unnecessary antibiotics.
