The Independent MHA for the Bay of Islands is highlighting road conditions that he says present a serious hazard to anyone travelling in the area of Lark Harbour and York Harbour.
Captain Cook’s Trail in the area of Copper Mine Brook shifted back in May causing a drop in the pavement which Eddie Joyce says remains unaddressed.
Joyce says a long-term fix is required, but in the meantime, short-term repairs are needed to make the road safe for travel.
He says one-half of the road has dropped at least 14 inches.
Speed in the area has dropped to 30 km/h but the drop is significant enough that drivers of tour buses and campers might not want to take the chance for fear of causing damage, or worse.
He says some tour buses refuse to drive down that way. Both the towns of Lark Harbour and York Harbour have written the department, but the situation remains unaddressed.
