Ottawa has approved this province’s request for disaster relief in the aftermath of Fiona.
Provincial Public Safety Minister John Hogan signed the official request yesterday.
Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair says they are deploying help immediately.
I have approved a Request for Federal Assistance from @GovNL for @CanadianForces to help local authorities ensure the safety of residents, as well as assist in assessing the damage from Hurricane Fiona.

He says Canadian Armed Forces and Transport Canada assets will be deployed to conduct assessments so that they can get a better idea of the scope of the damage. He says Armed Forces personnel will also be supporting local officials in helping residents.
St. John’s South-Mount Pearl MP Seamus O’Regan says there will be three platoons of reservists at the ready to assist the province, along with 100 personnel and HMCS Goose Bay and HMCS Margaret Brooke.
