A Newfoundland woman and her family had to grab everything and go as the Nova Scotia wildfires started to bear down on her Tantallon neighbourhood yesterday.
Jeni Hiltz says she and a friend were enjoying the morning out on the deck when they became aware of a fire in the vicinity. She says the situation escalated quickly.
She says they got the evacuation alert and grabbed enough to get them through a 24 to 48 hour period.
Hiltz, who is not certain whether her home has been affected by the growing fire, says the reality of the situation is starting to sink in.
“You really, genuinely wonder, ‘are we going to get to go home? When are we going to go home?'” says Hiltz.
