People in Carbonear can now resume normal activities following an incident in which they were advised to stay in place.
RCMP first began searching the Valley Road area for a man believed to be carrying a gun. They then searched a home on O’Driscoll’s Lane. The man in question has been arrested but there will still be a lot of officers and police vehicles in the area as they continue their investigation.
There is no further risk to public safety.

People in Carbonear are being told by police to remain in place, inside with doors locked as they search for a man who may be carrying a gun.
Police have expanded the advisory. They were asking people to stay away from Valley Road, the College of the North Atlantic and the Carbonear pool but have now included O’Driscoll’s Lane. Police are now searching a home in that area for the man.
RCMP are searching for a man who may be wearing a maroon shirt and black shorts. He may be in a grey 4-door Honda Civic with silver rims.
Mayor Frank Butt says some businesses have closed as a precaution and town facilities are closed.
He says there is a significant police presence in the area and people should stay inside and let police do their job.
RCMP have set up a perimeter where access is being restricted.
