Communities on the north coast of Labrador are hoping to open their doors to more tourists.
Jill Larkham, Director of Tourism with the Nunatsiavut Government, says they have been working with communities who are looking to welcome more visitors.
While many areas offer things like museums and community centres, residents also want to offer their stories and experiences.
One of their current projects is working with residents to create guide books containing their stories and history. They’re also providing storytelling workshops to share with tourists.
She says most importantly, they want to preserve the culture and history in a way that also benefits the visitor economy.
While Nunatsiavut is home to breathtaking scenes like the northern lights and Torngat Mountain range, Larkham says it’s the culture and history that resonates with visitors.
