Israel and Hamas have agreed to a temporary ceasefire in the brutal seven-week war as the result of a hostage-prisoner exchange deal brokered by Qatar.
Fifty Israeli hostages captured by Hamas militants will be released in exchange for at least 150 Palestinians jailed in Israel.
The first Israeli hostages—women and children captured in the October 7 attacks—are expected to be released on Thursday morning.
In exchange, Israel will release 150 Palestinian women and children held in Israeli prisons.
The truce agreement comes as the result of lengthy negotiations involving Qatar, Egypt and the US. The exact length of the ceasefire is unclear although it is expected to last for several days.
