Extreme weather is upon the entire province today with warnings out for a number of areas.
Some schools in the greater Corner Brook area, Labrador West and on the Burin Peninsula did not open this morning—many are remaining closed for the day.
Mike Vandenburgh, a meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says the entire island is in for a freeze-up while wind chills in Labrador are in the minus forties. Light snow and wind are compounding matters in some areas on the island.
The Northern Peninsula will be the cold spot on the island with an overnight low of minus 21 and a wind chill of minus 35.
